Coquelles is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department near Calais in northern France.

It is known informally as the town of the Channel Tunnel. The town comprises a shopping centre (Cité Europe), a centre hotellier with an Ibis, an Etap and a Suitehotel, a farm in vieille Coquelles (old Coquelles), part of the L'Européene autoroute (A16) and the Channel Tunnel terminal. A short distance away, near the modern settlement, but also within sight of the older centre of Vieux Coquelles, with the ruins of its church tower, is a Holiday Inn. Opposite this is the Old Mill, from which the hotel restaurant "Le Vieux Moulin" takes its name.

Shopping and Cité Europe

Cité Europe is a large shopping centre located near the Eurotunnel terminal just off the A16. It is popular with day trippers or "booze cruisers" (British slang) from the United Kingdom, as well as with French locals, due to the cheap alcohol available in the enclosed Carrefour store. The centre itself encompasses a wide range of shops, from UK high street favourites such as H&M and Zara, to shops which are distinctly more French in flavour. It also has a Gaumont cinema complex, a food court with several "English" pubs, as well as a McDonald's and a Flunch (self-service restaurant). Nearby is an Auchan hypermarket and the Calais branches of British retailers Sainsbury's, Majestic Wine and Oddbins.

Hotels

In the commercial zone, there is a Centre Hotellier with three Accor Hotels, Suitehotel, Ibis, and Etap, which are at three different budget levels. This location includes shared parking between the three hotels and it is located adjacent to the A16 autoroute.

Eurotunnel Terminal

For main article, see Eurotunnel.

The Eurotunnel terminal is located in Coquelles of the A16, exit 42. This is the terminus of shuttle services from the UK, as well as the terminus of the LGV Nord, whereby Eurostar services can travel into the Channel Tunnel.
